About

The Wood Pellet Association of Canada (WPAC) and its members are committed to supplying the world with responsible and renewable clean energy.

The voice of Canada’s sustainable and world-leading wood pellet sector

Biomass—in the form of wood pellets—is a low-carbon technology, typically saving 90 percent of greenhouse gas emissions over fossil fuel alternatives.

In the face of an ever-warming planet, ever-increasing demand for wood pellets worldwide is driven in large part by the global effort to meet ambitious climate targets.

In just a decade, our sector has become one of the largest pellet producers in the world, supplying customers domestically and globally with quality pellets that support a low-carbon economy.

We represent more than 50 producers and members with facilities across Canada, employing Canadians from coast to coast and transforming fibre—once considered waste—into responsible, renewable energy that harnesses the transformative power of pellets.

How do we do this?

  • By supporting research and development of new, innovative wood-based bioenergy products such as liquid biofuels and renewable natural gas
  • By expanding existing and growing new, markets for wood pellets
  • By developing domestic policies and programs that advance carbon objectives to replace fossil fuels and carbon-intensive energy sources with bioenergy from pellets
  • By removing policy and administrative barriers to the utilization of forest harvest residuals left in the woods as waste
